Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make sure a Veteran nonprofit is legitimate?
Here are the essential questions every donor should ask before supporting any Veteran organization:
1. Ask for the nonprofit’s IRS Form 990
This annual filing shows revenue, expenses, salaries, and program spending.
2. Ask whether the organization has ever had its nonprofit status revoked or suspended
This reveals compliance history and organizational integrity.
3. Ask to see the DD214 for any board member or director claiming to be a Veteran
This verifies military service and prevents stolen valor.
4. Ask if the organization is involved in any litigation
Transparency about legal matters is essential for donor trust.
**5. Ask how much compensation—**including perks—board members or directors receive
A legitimate Veteran nonprofit should be open about salaries, benefits, and any additional compensation.

An Important Statement to Our Community and Supporters
To our valued business partners, supporters, and friends:
It has come to our attention that an individual—or group of individuals—in our state is actively targeting the local businesses that support our mission. This person has been placing direct phone calls making malicious, defamatory, and entirely false claims about our organization, including alleging that we are a fraud, a scam, and an illegitimate nonprofit.
While we cannot comprehend the motivation behind these attacks, we take them extremely seriously. We want to reassure you that our mission, our 501(c)(3) standing, and our commitment to our veteran community remain completely solid. To offer total transparency, we have moved our official IRS Letter of Determination directly to our homepage so you can verify our legitimacy firsthand.
Our vision is focused, transparent, and unwavering:
-
Our Immediate Goal: Secure funding for 6 to 10 homes in Michigan through targeted grant writing and private donations.
-
Our Operational Goal: Build a solid and sustainable organization that fully supports these homes and the veterans inside them. This includes providing essential housing, climate control, bedding, food, laundry and bathroom facilities, personal hygiene items, and transportation to medical appointments. Crucially, we connect veterans with a Veteran Service Officer to secure their qualified benefits while offering a safe, structured environment built on military camaraderie.
-
Our Long-Term Blueprint: Perfect this supportive housing model in Michigan, then expand state-by-state to serve veterans across the nation.
We are actively gathering evidence to file formal criminal complaints and take decisive legal action against those attempting to undermine this mission. To build the strongest case possible, we need your help.
If your business receives a call from anyone making disparaging or fraudulent claims about our organization, please take the following steps:
-
Identify the Caller: Note the phone number displayed on your Caller ID.
-
Request Details: Politely ask the caller for their full name and any organization they claim to represent.
-
Report to Us: Share the date, time, phone number, and details of the call directly with our team at 810-206-2989.
Thanks to three alert business partners who have already come forward with positive caller IDs, our legal team is rapidly building a comprehensive case. Every additional piece of information helps us remove this threat to our local business community and, most importantly, protect the veterans we vow to support.
Thank you for standing with us, protecting our community, and helping us bring this menace to justice.
